Not to let 2012 go unnoticed


I was looking through our travel blog, as I enjoy doing every few months or so and I realized that since having our baby in December of 2011 we have not made a post about any of our travels. While we did not go internationally in 2012, we did take a few trips around America, so I thought that I would spend a few  minutes sharing some photos from 2012. We are planning on taking a 3 week international trip next  month, so stay tuned for pics, anecdotes and other cool bits about our Spring trip overseas with baby- set for April 2013. Bringing too many valuable items on a trip just increases the chance that some of them will be lost or stolen. If you have any food allergies, you will want to be especially careful when Traveling Experience abroad.

We moved to Chicago in 2009, after completing our four month honeymoon around the world. Eric attended Kellogg School of Management, earning his MBA and MEM while Laura spent time dabbling in taking writing classes, leading social clubs and running her own online business. Hanoi - City of 1 Million Motorbikes!

Laura and Eric eating shrimp fried rice in a street cafe, taking a picture with some local kids. We didnt quite know what to expect from Vietnam, but it turns out to be really awsome. the people were nice and full of smiles, while the country itself was interesting and picturesque. The cities are full of life, and we had a great time just walking around and soaking up the local life. We landed in Hanoi at about 10 PM. Our taxi driver, supplied by the hotel, gave us a bit of a shock when he dropped us off at “Eden Plaza Hotel.” This was strange because we had made reservations at “Love Planet 1.” With alarm bells going off in our heads, we were remembering all that we had read about scams and fake hotels in this city. We were finally sated once we saw that all of our emails from Love Planet 1 had come from the Eden Plaza email address. The Old quarter of Hanoi is pretty wild, with tons of motorbikes, walkers, cyclos (bicycle-rickshaws), hawkers, and tourists abound. There are no tr...

Dehli - A Whole New Ballgame!

Laura and Eric at Humayun's tomb. Our flight to Dehli, India, was almost a bit of an adventure in itself. We flew out of Cairo and had a layover in Bahrain, where we hung out in the airport for about five and a half hours. People were dressed in traditional garb even more than in Egypt, so we saw many men wearing the old school long white shirts and headgear, and more women dressed all in black with nothing showing but their eyes, and sometimes, not even that. We wondered how they checked in for their flight. Do they show their faces then? We wrote a bunch of postcards, then sat down for a nice meal at TGI Friday’s, although they had no vegetables, mashed potatoes, ribs, pork of any kind, or reasonable prices. So we sat down to our dinner of chicken crispers and a hamburger, each with a side of French fries and sautéed mushrooms. Yum! Then off to the next leg of our trip, India, which we arrived at early in the AM. One more note…Flying over Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan felt real...
