A crepe is as sweet as it sounds!
We have had a wonderful three days in the city of lights. Laura is fantasically in love with Paris and everything within its bounds. The day we arrived, we ate dinner at a small cafe on the square by our hotel, then rode the subway down to the Eiffel Tower and had an ice cream underneath it while walking through the adjacent park.
The next day, we had a french baguette sandwich and shopped at the local open air market, where we purchased some spanish sheep's milk cheese and cured ham, which tasted something like Prosciutto. After shopping for a bit, we ran off to see Cemeterie Pere Lachaise. This wondeful necropolis, situated on a hill, was full of masoleums and crypts of every sort, and housed the famous and finest of paris, including Fredrick Chopin, Bellini, and our own Jim Morrison. Next we hopped over to the Siene and walked along its beautiful banks for a bit, stopping at Notre Dame cathedral. After exploring the treasury and the cathedral, we then attended part of a mass. Afterward, we stopped by a bakery and picked up a fresh, warm baguette, and sat down in a park next to the cathedral. We had an excellent view, while we ate our bread, cheese and ham. We then picked up a few bottles of french wine and retired for the evening.
Today, we started with a bang, and our first stop was to pick up some pepporoni and cheese panini's on focaccia bread, which were exquisite! Then we went to the Arc de Triompe, and then shopping on the Avenue de Champs Elyesse. Laura hopped in and out of stores like a kid in a candy shop, and ended up with some new sandals and a brooch, while I watched all the people go by. We strolled through the place de la concorde, a massive open square and gardens, full of statues and a oblisk from the temple of Ramses II in Luxor, Egypt. This square was also where Marie Antoinnette, Louis XV, and many more were executed during the french revolution. We walked our way over to the Lourve Museum and spent the next four hours wandering its halls, seeing everything from the remains of the palace of Persian King Darius I to the state apartments of Napoleon III, not to mention the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. Now we are back in the room, packing up for the next leg of our trip. Enjoy the pictures below!!!
